I have the honour to submit for the favourable consideration of the Rt Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies the application for increase of salary. I enclose a copy of my letter of 23rd March 1881 laid before the Governor of Hongkong, Hr his Excellency John Pope Hennessy, and also His Excellency's reply thereto of 25th March 1884.
In December 1872, Lord Kimberley was pleased to appoint me, on the recommendation of Sir James Paget, senior physician of St Bartholomew's Hospital, as the port medical superintendent of the new Civil Hospital. I have performed the duties of this post for over eight years.
